President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja today to see a doctor in London and participate in the Global Education Alliance funding the 2021-2025 Global Education Summit.

This was included in a statement by Femi Adesina, the president’s media adviser. It is expected to return in the second week of August 2021. The statement read: “President Mohamed Buhari will travel to the UK on Monday, July 26, 2021, to participate in the Global Education Partnership (GPE) 2021-2025 Global Education Summit on Financing.


“The summit will be co-hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta. It will bring together heads of state and government, as well as stakeholders and young leaders, and will exchange best practices for cooperation.

Partners provide a platform to point the way for the transformation of the education system of partner countries. “It will also provide opportunities for leaders to pledge to support the work of GPE within five years to help transform education systems in as many as 90 countries and regions.

“The summit deliberations will focus on: the power of education: dialogue between world champions; transformation of girls education; funding for impact and recovery; what to do? The priorities for education transformation in the next five years, etc.

“President Buhari will also hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson. After the summit, the President will take a few days to conduct a pre-scheduled medical examination. You must return by the second week of August 2021.

“The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of National Education Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the National Security Advisor Major General Babagana Monguno (rtd), and the Director of the National Intelligence Agency Emb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.”
