Report has it that the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) has on Monday issued a three-day removal notice
to the area, the Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye, who issued the removal notice, stated that the order became necessary for the purpose of road construction along the coastal road, which serves as an alternative route for the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
He noted that the road leads to Lekki Free Zone (LFZ) and is presently littered with illegal structures, abandoned vehicles, shanties, containers and commercial activities by all shades of artisans.
Jejeloye said, “The stretch of the road has been taken over by mechanics, block makers, bamboo and wood sellers, shanties and other illegal occupiers, which will impede effective road construction work in the area.”
He stated that the notice would expire on Thursday and officials of the agency would remove all structures, shanties, abandoned vehicles and materials in the area. He stated further that the removal of all encumbrance and criminal hideouts in Marwa Waterside area would reduce traffic robberies and criminal activities on Lekki/Ajah corridor, especially at Jakande roundabout.
The Chairman, therefore, urged the affected persons to heed the State Government’s Removal Order as anyone found on the road at the expiration of the notice would face justice.
Recall that the Lagos State Government had, in December 2019, removed all the illegal structures on the Lekki Coastal Road to give room for its construction.
Sanwo-Olu Promises A Better Life For Lagosians
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reassured residents of Lagos that his government would continue to make life better for them. He made this known while speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote during today’s Local Government elections at Polling Unit 019, Femi Okunnu/Lateef Jakande, Ward 09 Ikoyi II, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the State.
He noted that “the recent upgraded and rehabilitated network of roads in some axis of the State is a reflection of what is happening in all the local government areas in Lagos State.”
“We are doing construction works everywhere in Lagos State. What you see here (Lateef Jakande Road) is a reflection of what is happening in all our local government areas. Two years ago, this particular road, Lateef Jakande was not like this and now it is wearing a new look. We are doing the same thing in all our local governments and other places in Lagos State. I believe that the whole idea around governance is to improve and make life better for our citizens,” he said.
