First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed food items and cash support to vulnerable women in Sokoto State under the Renewed Hope Initiative, a social investment programme of the presidency.
The intervention comprised 1,500 bags of maize and millet (25kg each), 1,200 bags of rice, and cash assistance for 10,000 beneficiaries.Represented by Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, wife of the Vice President, Mrs.
Tinubu said the initiative was designed to support persons with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable households across the country.
“So far, the initiative has reached 17 states and the Federal Capital Territory with food palliatives, and more empowerment programmes will soon be launched, targeting elderly women and persons with disabilities,” she said.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, represented by his deputy, Idris Mohammed Gobir, said the state government had also rolled out palliative measures for the needy.
He noted that through the state’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SOSMEDA), billions of naira had been disbursed under the Ahmadu Cares Programme to entrepreneurs across the 23 local government areas.

“These interventions are meant to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and promote job creation. The First Lady’s initiative is timely and will go a long way in giving vulnerable groups a sense of belonging,” Aliyu said.Earlier, Sokoto State First Lady, Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, welcomed the delegation and disclosed that the state government also provided assorted grains to complement the federal distribution.She praised Mrs.
