Oba Ladoja’s Reign Will Usher In Development

Renowned historian and professor, Toyin Falola, has expressed strong optimism that the upcoming reign of Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will mark a new era of modernisation and progress for Ibadan land.

Falola made these remarks on Wednesday while delivering the First Olubadan Coronation Lecture held in honour of Oba Ladoja.

The lecture, themed “Ibadan History: Issues in Tradition and Modernity,” explored the dynamic balance between preserving cultural heritage and embracing contemporary development.Oba Ladoja, who is set to be installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland this Friday, was described by Professor Falola as a distinguished figure whose background as a former politician, statesman, and successful businessman positions him uniquely to drive meaningful change.

“Though he is not the governor, the expectations of the people of Ibadan and the entire state are high because he has the power to influence the achievement of significant development goals,” Professor Falola stated.Highlighting the need for environmental stewardship, Falola urged the people of Ibadan to adopt modern practices such as proper waste disposal and improved environmental hygiene.

He further emphasized the importance of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland’s forebears while continuing to advance in modernity.
