IGP Warns Officers Against Extortion & Land Grabbing In Kano

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbedokun has warned senior police officers against engaging in corruption and criminal acts that could tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force, vowing strict sanctions for offenders.

Delivering the warning through Kano State Commissioner of Police (CP) Ibrahim Adamu Bakori during a meeting with divisional and tactical commanders on Monday, the IGP specifically cautioned against the persistent extortion of innocent citizens.

Egbedokun also condemned the reported use of police personnel to provide protection for land grabbers.

He directed that officers must henceforth steer clear of land disputes and related matters, insisting such cases should be handled by the courts.

In addition, the IGP ordered the dismantling of all unauthorized roadblocks and checkpoints outside Kano metropolis, citing frequent attacks on officers and the seizure of their weapons.

Meanwhile, CP Bakori disclosed that the command has dismantled several robbery gangs, arrested 108 suspects, and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

Briefing journalists on the command’s recent achievements, Bakori revealed that Tramadol and Pregabalin tablets worth ₦82.7 million were recovered in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters, Kano.

He added that the drugs will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.

“In compliance with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police on adopting community-centered, proactive crime prevention strategies ahead of the last quarter of the year, the Kano Command has intensified its strategic initiatives, particularly through Operation Kukan Kura,” Bakori said.

He noted that the operation, which involves active public participation, has significantly reduced crime in the state by leveraging intelligence and technology to stay ahead of criminal elements.
