The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a private security guard, Amos Kini, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old boy and demanding ₦5 million ransom from the child’s family.
Police spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the incident occurred on the night of Saturday, September 21, 2025, in the Elemoro area of Lagos.According to Adebisi, the child’s mother reported to the Elemoro Divisional Headquarters that Kini disappeared with her son and her mobile phone around 11:50 p.m.

Shortly afterward, the suspect used the stolen phone to contact the child’s father and demanded ransom for the boy’s release.“Upon receipt of the report, operatives from Elemoro Division immediately initiated a swift response. The scene was promptly visited and documented, and one Aruna Dauda, who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning,” Adebisi stated.
She added that sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance forced the suspect to release the child unharmed.
However, police continued their manhunt and, on September 23, officers of the Tactical Squad, codenamed Hyena, tracked Kini to his hideout in Elemoro, where he was arrested.Police said Kini has confessed to the crime and remains in custody.
He will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the abduction and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling violent and capital crimes.
