LAUTECH Nurses Suspend Strike After Makinde’s Intervention

Nurses and midwives at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their strike following the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The suspension was confirmed in a statement signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, and issued in Ibadan on Friday.

The health workers had embarked on an indefinite strike in September 2025 over welfare and working conditions.

Their grievances were addressed after Governor Makinde personally visited the hospital on Wednesday, meeting with management, staff, and professional associations.

During the visit, the governor approved a ₦35 million increase in the hospital’s monthly subvention and ordered the phased payment of outstanding promotion and minimum wage arrears.

He also directed the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital system to promote fairness and inclusivity.

Makinde further pledged to constitute a Governing Council for the institution without delay and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo before the end of his tenure. In their resolution, the nurses described the governor as a “compassionate and visionary leader” whose swift actions restored confidence in the system.

“The Congress of nurses and midwives held on Friday, October 3, 2025, formally resolved to suspend the strike, with full services resuming immediately,” the statement read.

They added that the interventions not only addressed immediate welfare concerns but also laid the foundation for long-term institutional growth.

They noted that Makinde had “once again demonstrated that he is a leader tested, trusted, and attuned to the needs of his people.”
