Reports making the rounds suggest that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has allegedly approved a massive salary upgrade for security guards at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.
According to accounts from an interactive session held at the hospital, one of the guards reportedly spoke up about the meager salary of ₦18,800 they were receiving, stressing that the pay could barely sustain his family. He appealed directly to the governor for intervention.
In response, Governor Makinde was said to have ordered an immediate upward review of their wages, raising it to ₦80,000 per month. He also allegedly directed that the guards be absorbed as ad-hoc workers under the hospital, while instructing management to terminate the outsourcing contract with the private security firm.
The adjustment is expected to take effect from October 1, 2025, covering about 65–67 guards stationed at the hospital.
If fully implemented, this move would mark a significant welfare improvement for the security personnel, many of whom had worked for years without formal benefits or job security.
