Six people were rescued on Wednesday evening after a two-storey building collapsed at 4 Modupeola Street, Mangoro Bus Stop, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, leaving one man trapped and injured.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m., though the cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA) and other first responders arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse and assisted in extracting the victims.
Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the rescue in a statement posted on his Instagram handle.
“The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” Omotoso said.
The trapped individual, a 44-year-old resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho, was pulled from the debris with fractures and bruises.
He was transported by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency unit. “He arrived at the hospital in a stable condition and was immediately admitted for further treatment,” the commissioner added. The other five victims were taken to a private hospital in the neighborhood for evaluation and treatment.

Omotoso said authorities had launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
The event comes amid a spate of building collapses in Lagos, raising renewed concerns over adherence to construction and safety regulations. In May, three members of a family died when an uncompleted two-storey building collapsed in Ikorodu, while five people were killed in a separate collapse at Ojodu Berger.
More recently, four people narrowly escaped death in July when a three-storey building fell along Adeniji-Adele Road in Isale Eko.Experts have repeatedly linked these recurring tragedies to weak enforcement of building standards, warning that further collapses are likely unless construction regulations are strictly observed.“The cause of the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., was not immediately known,” Omotoso noted. “Government officials have launched a probe into the incident.”
Residents and emergency responders at the scene described the operation as coordinated, with officials working to ensure the safety of those trapped and to prevent further damage.
